We started out our expedition by landing in Las Vegas. Jeremy picked us up and we headed to our campground in Red Rocks. We went rock climbing the next day and I made it to the top of both walls! After we were done with that, we took a long drive to a campground right outside the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. After we got ready for the back country, we went hiking down into the bottom of the Grand Canyon the next day. We got to stay there for three nights and it was a fun experience hiking down from the opposite side this time. We stayed at a campsite really close to the Colorado River and right next to a creek. It was called Bright Angel Campground, and it was a really fun one to stay at. One of the days, we got to go down to the boat beach nearby and do our schoolwork. There was a lot of wildlife at the Grand Canyon, especially mule deer. I saw quite a few deer as we were hiking and camping. They were staring at me from literally just a few feet away. There were also squirrels and birds that were very cool looking.
The second part of the expedition, we camped out of the van. We were finally able to do our laundry. We went to Petrified Forest National Park. We listened to a Ranger talk about fossilized clam bed, how the wood became petrified, layers of the rocks, how the dinosaurs lived there, and rocks with petrified drawings on it. After the Ranger Talk, we watched a movie about the Petrified Forest.
I can’t wait for the next expedition with Anne and Eric!
